Award-winning photographer, music journalist and author Mr. Bonzai is moderating “MUSIC SMARTS” in the Hot Zone at Winter NAMM. Panelists are Def Leppard guitar legend Phil Collen; producer CJ Vanston (Tina Turner, Prince, Christopher Guest films); pop singer/songwriter Kristina Helene; record label CEO Scott Austin; folk rocker Justine Bennett; and producer KamranV (Nine Inch Nails, Beck, Spaceland Recordings).

Whether you dare to attempt a career in music or are simply curious about how musicians do what they do, this Hot Zone panel will give you in-the-trenches wisdom and inspiration. What do artists look for in producers, engineers and studios? How has music making changed in the shift from traditional multi-tracking to the laptop? What magical moments have these guests experienced in their careers?
KamranV: one of today's most innovative music and video producers, as well as president and founder of the Spaceland Recordings live audio and video recording label.
CJ Vanston: composer, keyboardist, bandleader, engineer, producer recognized for his superb scores for the Christopher Guest films ("Best in Show," "A Mighty Wind," etc.) and his work on more than 300 top albums.
Kristina Helene: 18-year old rising Canadian singer/songwriter working now in the studio with producer CJ Vanston.
